We haven't had to replace any of our layer flock for 3 yrs so all we've been hatching has been my husbands tiny bantams. This year I decided it was time for new layers and got an assortment of LF chicks from Ideal. I had forgotten how BIG they are compared to all the little tiny bantams. My exchequer leghorns at 2 wks old are almost the same size as the 6 wk old bantams.

I guess the older layer girls got the hint because my 5 yr old Wyandotte that layed less than a dozen eggs last year has been giving me 4 to 5 eggs a week for the last month. The other 2 three yr old hens are giving me 6 eggs a week. Plus all 6 ducks kicked into full production so since I decided to get new layers I've got more than enough eggs!

When the new dozen pullets are laying I'll be sending 10 or 12 dozen eggs a week to the shelter.
