lice and mites

    My wife has been reading about lice and mites and fleas on chickens.She was wondering if they get them, will she get them? She reads about things then gets paranoid

    Nope. They are host specific. A few might jump onto her but they will also jump off, they won't stay when they figure out she is not a bird.

    Although the lice and mites that infest chickens do not reproduce without their hosts, they DO get on people and other pets and they will BITE. There have been cases of homes becoming infested by bird mites from nests on the house built by wild birds. The best option is to make sure your birds stay as free as possible from mites and lice and then you won't have to worry about it:)
