My friend and I picked up some inexpensive light sussex hens and a rooster at the Stockton, Ca PPBA show. Since we brought them home, they all lay a pinky brown egg....apart from one hen who is laying a green-blue egg. All of then hens look identical. Now, we only paid $10 for them, and have no plans of showing them or anything, but I was just wondering why I would have a greeny-blue egg from one? I'm fuzzy on egg genetics, but I wouldn't think a green egg would be common in a mix. I tried to find a light sussex thread, but I couldn't see one, so I am sorry if this is not the appropriate place. Hoping someone well versed on egg genetics might be able to explain.
