I bought what was supposed to be 2 lt brahma hens. they are almost full grown now and one is CLEARLY a rooster though it isnt crowing yet. It has HUGE legs and sickle and saddle feathers coming. Fine but when looking thru this months national geographic it had a page devoted to rare breeds. It had a picture of a light sussex and it looked EXACTLY like my lt brahma.

So are they same? was it maybe a screw up at the magazine (my DH finds this highly unlikely). Are thy supposed to look different?

Does your brahma have feathered feet? Please, post a picture if you have one! [IMG]

Yes both hen and rooster have feathered feet. Don;t have a pic of them now, I will get one in the a.m. and post for you. They are VERY calm, easy to catch, handle, not flighty. These two are as calm as my buff orps.

Light Sussex would have a single comb and clean legs. Brahmas have a pea comb and feathered legs.

Also--Light Sussex have pink legs & Brahmas have yellow.
