My 10-week old RR roster is limping. He got stuck straddling a bracket holding the poop trays. I can't see any cut but his tail feathers are drooping. He is eating and is alert. Any suggestions? These are our first birds.

Can you put him in a crate for a day or two to reevaluate him after resting his leg? Look for any swelling or discoloration in his leg, and make sure the leg isn't paralyzed. Sometimes when birds get stuck they can have nerve damage from pressure, or suffer sprains from struggling.

Thank you. We had a chance to check him and his foot is cut. Putting polysporin on?

If you have any betadine or chlorhexadrene, you could wash it off with that first, and then use the polysporin twice a day. A little dressing such as the ones used for bumblefoot may help keep it clean. I'm glad you found the injury--that will probably heal up okay.

Dressing for bumblefoot--gauze covered by vet wrap (not too tight.)
