limping hen!

Me and my neighbor noticed one of are Rhode Island Reds seriously limping. We looked at her foot and found nothing to unusual, but a small round hard spot at the back of her heal. We checked her other foot and didn't find anything. We put a cotton ball and some Vaseline on it and wrapped her foot with some medical tape. any idea what it is? it seems to give her a lot of pain. She only puts pressure on the toes of that foot. Any other suggestions on how to get rid of it?

You may want to read up on bumble foot. It can be very painful.

The thing is, we had 3 other hens who had bumble foot, and the bump the Rhode Island Red has is definitely not what the other hens had. it is very small small and hard and under the skin. The other three hens' cushiony part on their foot turned all puffy and hot, and they had a big scab. connected to the scab was a yellow infection. That's bumble foot, right?
