We just decided that we will be getting our first chickens in the spring. I've heard that a concrete floor is the easiest to clean and maintain. My husband seems to think that we don't need to put any litter on the ground and that we can just hose down the floor that way. I told him they need pine shavings or straw. Help?

If you did do concrete it would be very cold and slick. I would use pine shaving because they will help hold in heat, absorb, and help the chickens have a nice soft place to walk.

when they're babies use pine shavings so they can stay warm. when you get ready to put them outside use wire on the inside house part and put hay on top of the wire on the inside.

So do you just shovel the hay out when you need to clean?
