ive been treating my little duccle for cocci ( but im thinking thats not what it is) for about a week.shes no better.im seeing some red in her poo but it looks more like intestinal lining to me.she walks around with her eyes half closed, sleeps alot,is puffed up.shes about a year old.shes eating and drinking and still perching.nothing coming out of her eyes or nostrils.i see no parasites on her or in her poo,so im totally at a loss here.dont no what to try next.i dont want to keep giving her drugs when i dont no whats wrong with her..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

You'll have to research on here; I have never treated for cocci, just read about it. After a few days, I would personally find some Sulmet. I know they say look for the liquid, not the tablets.

They are supposed to develop some immunity over time, but they can also be infected a long time before getting sick. I doubt there is a "too old."

Look up some posts by speckledhen in this section; she has an ongoing problem with cocci and lots of experience with chickens, and is always helpful to folks. I know she's answered every cocci question there is several times over by now.

i was reading some posts on here and some say use the corid for 7 days then wait 21 days and give sulmet, but is it safe to wait 21 days if the corid doesnt work? wont the cocci get worse?

If I remember correctly, corid blocks some vitamin in the cocci, may be thiamine??? Sulmet is at any rate a sulfa antibiotic. Very different, obviously. If I had birds sick with cocci and not responding to corid, I wouldn't wait any 21 days, I'd maybe wait 2. Cocci can kill them, too, after all. I don't know what the reasoning behind the 21 day recommendation is, unless it is to give the Corid plenty of chance to work.

I'm no vet, no expert, for sure. Just sharing opinions.

Do let us know how it turns out.
