Little Photoshoot [IMG Heavy] - CHICKS HATCHING!!! :-D

Thanks everyone!

scratch'n'peck:

They are pretty big for the breed. I think Mr. Puffy is closer to the breed standard - he's smaller, has the dark waddles/comb, and has really nice feathering on his toes and top of his head. Yeti is a lot bigger, but still considerable smaller than the "normal breed"/standard size roosters we used to have. Yeti and Puffy are actually from hatchery/feed store stock... I got them from a local Tractor Supply Company, so they're by no means up to par with show quality birds. They are wonderful though.

They get along GREAT - which really surprises me and I'm so thankful for. Yeti is the dominate roo and Mr. Puffy doesn't seem to mind being low-man. They both take great care of the hens and make sure the girls don't wander off. Yeti is the only only who breeds them though. Occasionally the two will squabble, which usually results in Yeti chasing Puff around the yard, and Puff literally screaming. No blood or injuries though. They were together right from the start as chicks and have quite a brotherly bond.

KimKimWilliamso:

Yes it is! Wyonna is my Golden Laced Bearded Polish. I didn't think the Crested Polish types would be able to see well, but all 3 of the girls seem to get by pretty well. Sophie is the only one who seemed to have issues at first, when she was younger, and I use to cut the feathers around her eyes, but she seems to have adapted well to her plumage and I don't need to trim her feathers anymore. I do notice that the Polish are more "triggered" than my other breeds - during treat handouts, they are the ones who tend to peck at my toes/fingers (if I have nail polish on) and also tend to go for my rings/jewelery... lol

(I'm a bit overly-excited!)

The baby is technically from one of the Polish girls. It's super cute!

Right now it's a bit lethargic, it peeps, but doesn't move much, so I'm going to let it stay under broody-momma for a while. These are her first hatch, so I hope she takes care of it well. Once some of the others hatch and they all seem healthy and strong, I'll end up moving them to a brooder....

Keeping my fingers crossed and praying that they all hatch and survive!

(and yes, I know that I totally went overboard with the smileys...)

You didn't go overboard with smilies, you should have added more!! Lol

All your chickens are SO pretty! I love those big puffy roosters! Cute! Isn't it nice how they get along? My silkie did that too, they're just so sweet. And gosh that chick is so adorable! Tell the eggs to hatch faster so we can all see pictures! LOL

Hahaha! Thank you!

I've had multiple roos in the past and never had two boys get along as well as these. I'm so happy for that. Silkies are great! I definitely should have gotten more, lol

I'm actually sad to announce that my first chick did not make it. Momma-hen seemed to have accidently crushed the poor thing and literally flattened it to death

I'm not sure what exactly the problem was or how to fix it. I made a few adjustments and also posted the story under the 'Hatching Eggs' section, asking for advice. I still have 11 eggs to go, so I'm really hoping the others hatch without any issues and survive.

I'm pretty bummed. I don't if I'm being biased, but I think that was one of the most gorgeous and interesting color combinations I have ever seen in a chick - looked like a little splashy penguin, lol! I'm hoping that some of the other eggs contain chicks similar to this one. I would love to see what it would look like when molted out.

I will definitely post pictures of the others when [/if] they hatch.

2nd CHICK HATCHED, right in front of my own eyes! Wow, what an EXPERIENCE!!!

I'm still a little worried because momma-hen still seems a little rough and clumsy - I just hope the rest of the chicks don't meet the same fate as the 1st... :(

Anyways - PICTURES:

This chick isn't as gorgeous as the first, but I noticed the same "silver highlights" as the first one had. I'm excited to see how this one looks once dry! This one also has inherited the "silkie toes"

I'll update this post later with more pics of this one fuzzy

**** hen [accidently] killed this baby too!!!
I'm sorry for the language, but *** is going on here with her?!
