Ok I have a question I am curious about. I know everyone says to lock your ducks up in the house at night for protection. If the ducks are in a very protected pen do you still need to lock them in the house or is it best to let them roam in the pen at night? I have had to leave my ducks out over night a couple of times and they did fine even went in a house to lay eggs. Would it be okay to let them all stay out at night as long as they are in the pen and protected.:idunno:idunno:idunno:idunno

What exactly do you mean by a protected pen? :pop

I have a large pen 20 feet x 25 feet. And since I have put my electric wire on it I have not had a single loss or break in. And I know the pen was visited by plenty of coons and possums. I have seen the tracks around and close to the fence but nothing inside. I also have chicken wire around the bottom to keep their heads inside the pen.

I would be worried about Owls. Better to be safe than sorry. I would say Lock them up. :)

Mine are in a covered pen at night. I locked them in their house for their first couple of months but they made such a mess with food and water (I know they can go without). Now, even though they can go out during the night, they sleep in the house (I have checked). They are almost two years old.
You might look into covering your pen. Even if it was just a light bird netting or fishing line it should stop hawks during the day and owls at night.
