Hi, this is a total shot in the dark, but I'll ask anyway.

An old friend of mine, actually she is a former boss lives in Lakeland Florida. Her name is Nancy.

She and her hubby retired there a couple years ago. There is a pond in the community where they live. I imagine all the homes are up against the pond so it's right out their back door.

So I got an e-mail from her today telling me that there was a pair of muscovies that came to their house every evening to visit.

2 days ago the female was killed. She says that the male is heartbroken and none of the other ducks socialize with this Muscovy.
I know this may be foolish, but I know her heart is in the right place.
She has been trying to find another Muscovy for him.

She told me that she called a hatcheries, but all they offer is babies.
She doesn't want to get into brooding babies or anything like that. They are an older couple and I just think it might be too much for her.

So I am seeking someone in her area who might have 1 or 2 available.

Is this just a bad idea?

Any advice would be welcome. I will be glad to pass it on to her.

Oh, and I did explain to her that if they aren't kept in a pen or duck house at night they are prime targets for predators.

    Thanks!!! [IMG]

Oh and here are pictures she sent me. They were named Oscar and Gretchen.

Uhh, I would discourage getting him a girl, because a lot of higher-ups in Florida are trying to get all muscovies killed off to prevent over population and disease. Obviously not the best course of action to exacerbate the problem.

Muscovies hatch out like twenty babies at a time, so even if you only had one female for him, they'd have up to about two 'litters' of anywhere between 14-20 ducklings a year.
