My husband and I are nearing retirement from chapter 1 of our work life and just entered chapter 2 - small scale sustainable produce and poultry. We purchased a 2.5 acre place the summer of 2011 and raised a batch of 25 meaties (for our own consumption) in April. So many people asked to buy our birds, we ended up with nine for ourselves, so grew 75 more over the summer. Our plans were to brood the layers for production next spring, but couldn't wait. We wanted about a dozen Wyandottes of laying age - didn't know how hard that would be in late Sept. Ended up with 2 Delaware, 5 Rhode Island Reds, and 4 bantam Wyandottes. The big girls gave us our first egg on 10/25 Well that is a bit of an intro into RBerryChicks. I must get back to work (lunch break over). Since I am from Wisconsin, I have subscribed to Wisconsin "Cheeseheads" and look forward to interacting with others in my state and beyond.
