    Hi everyone

Thank you for letting me join the forum, I have had ducks and hens for a few years now. I mostly have RIR hens & rooster for eggs & meat along with some apricot call ducks as pets. I started off hatching some call duck eggs a few years ago now, successfully hatching a pair, beginners luck I now realise! I sadly lost my drake & no 1 duck to a stoat this winter, so now trying to hatch some again, fingers crossed as I don't have beginners luck on my side anymore!

I live in Orkney, a beautiful group of islands off the north coast of Scotland. I find RiRs a good hardy breed for up here. However, they're making me unpopular at the moment as they are feasting on my other half's newly sown barley field!

A stoat is in the same family as weasels & ferrets. We don't have many predators in Orkney - no foxes; but stoats were accidentally introduced a few years ago and have spread like mad causing all sorts of problems for native wildlife and for us poultry owners.

Thank you. That is unfortunate that they were brought in!
