Are you talking long tails in general or a specific breed like Phoenix, Yokohama, Sumatra, Cubalaya, etc...?

I only have experience with Cubalaya, they're an oriental game that happens to have a lengthy tail.

Tail should be held below horizontal in both male and female, from chick to adult. The shape is what is called "lobster-tail" or "Shrimp-tail".

They molt every year, there is not a non-moulting gene in this breed.

They take two years, sometimes longer, to achieve full maturity and tail growth.

As long as they are given plenty of room and a proper diet, their tails remain sturdy and the feathers stay strong.

Here's a photo of a very nice wheaten* male that I own:

No, they are not the same coloring. If you'll search for photos of old english games and look at the black breasted red, and then at the wheaten coloring there is a difference. It is most noticeable in the females. Cubalaya coloring is all wheaten based (see article in Backyard Poultry Magazine ).

I'm saying the language of the Standard is misleading. You cannot find black breasted red coloring in cubalaya females. They are only wheaten colored and a deep cinnamon wheaten at that, if colored correctly.
