Her dog killed the mama and two of the ducklings. We are guessing these are mallards.

Maybe Wood Ducks? Do you know what the mom looked like? It would be easier to tell if you posted a picture of a duck that looks similar to her. [IMG] Good luck! [IMG]

Quote:Thats my guess too. [IMG] Wood Ducks are native to Florida also. They are so sweet. I'm so sorry about the momma and other babies. [IMG]

I was mistaken about the dog killing the mom. The dog killed two ducklings. She never saw the mom. She looked and couldn't find the mom. I do think they may be wood ducks, they look a lot like them. Should we keep them?

Quote:Since they are wild - keeping them is illegal. You need to contact a wildlife rehabilitator or state park rangers to let them know you have them, and find out 1. if they will take them, 2. if they will allow you to rehabilitate them, 3. if they do allow you to rehabilitate then identify and assist in informative care.

Its more likely they will take them if they have the room. If they are a wild migratory species (which wood ducks are) then they are under protection by federal law, and keeping them is against the law. [IMG]

Just wanted to let you know! Good luck with these guys! They are super cute!
