Yeah, we have the pen and house wrapped in hardware cloth so nothing can actually get in the house or pen, but this girl was actually under the house. I know she was LOOKING for a way in. We don't mind the snakes and actually WANT the king snakes and black snakes in the fields ( cause they keep the copperheads away) But I don't want them around my ducks. And does anybody know if a big black snake like that will eat duck eggs? There's no mice ( that I've seen anyway) around the duck house or pen, and I was just wondering what could have attracted that big girl?
Ok, so ya answered my question before I actually asked it. *high5*
So she did want the duck eggs. But there's no way they're getting in. Right? I can't see any opening and everything is surrounded by mesh.... but snakes can slither in a lot of weird places. Now I'm worried for my babies.
she may not have been able to get in... she may have been there cause it was clean and dry for her... and maybe even warm if you had a heat lamp
how do you keep your babies?
Is there a way to make a separate pen for the babies within the coop so that if a snake does get into the coop they will then have to figure out another pen before they get your babies as a snack
Was that a king snake?????? Down here they eat other posoinus snakes... rats, mice etc.. They are good to have around just not fun to find LOL.. if we didn't have them we would have more rodents..
I mean all my ducks are my babies. I don't have any ducklings right now. I do have 2 mommas setting... but they're in a different pen all together closer to my house.
