I have a half acre run for my chickens surrounded by a 6’ chain link fence. I haven’t lost a bird from a coyote since I put it up and got a dog but I am still worried about hawks. I was thinking of installing some bushes or foliage that my birds can hide under from the hot SW Oklahoma shade and the hungry birds of prey. Ideally I need something that protects the birds, is heat and drought tolerant and maybe provides treats for my family and the birds. Any suggestions?

Illinois everbearing mulberry, apple, persimmon, grapevines, and annuals grown in a cage/trellis system such as squash and tomatoes.
