Is there anyone in ocean county nj that would be willing to show me/assist me in draining the water belly on my chicken. I bought the syringes. I attempted once and hesitated as i touched her with the needle. It scratched her skin and she bled (surface bleed never went in) im terrified of doing this again without someone that has done this at home before. I have brought her to the vet once in october and he made it look very easy. Cost in total was $450 i cant do that again. Shes 3 years old still spunky and seems to be full of life outside of that. This is the reason i have decided not to have her put down yet.

Update i rewatched the videos to build confidence and refreash my mind. I founf someone to hold the chicken for me. Did exactly what i was supposed to do and it came out tinted an obvious green. I read some google reading and said it may be an infection among other deadly things. So i have fish mox on hand and started her with that. She is still very full and still penquin wobbling. Outside of a vet is there anything else or something else i can do to help with the possible infection?

I can’t help but I know someone who can @Eggcessive
Thank you i went for it and did well. Sadly the fluid was green. If it wasnt bad enough it seems from what im reading she has a possible severe infection. Started her on fish mox due to thats what i have on hand not sure if it will help but worth a shot. She is still very full of fluid. I may have to do it again in a couple of days to relieve more fluid. Thank you. If the person you know has any advise or input it would be greatly appriciated.

I tagged the person who should be able to help so hopefully they see the message and can read this thread and give you some advice to go forward with
Thank you so much. I have her inside for the night to keep warm and stress free. She is eating and drinking some, her breathing seems labored and she is using a wing to help with balance im hoping in the morning she is a little better fingers crossed but i know things dont look good for her future sadly.

The darker the fluid and if it is greenish, it is a sign of bile and worse liver damage. Liver problems which cause water belly/ascites are reproductive infection (salpingitis, egg yolk peritonitis,) cancer, fatty liver disease, and especially in meat birds, heart failure. I would probably make her comfortable, try to keep her eating and drinking. If she is having llabored breathing, then draining again may give temporary relief. There is nothing to do to reverse liver failure, but you can learn what was causing it by getting a necropsy through your state vet after death. You can do a home necropsy which may give some info if you post pictures of the organs here, but below is a list of state vets to contact:

Thank you so much for your kind words and information its greatly appriciated. While i have you i also have a 4 year old hen with sour crop. I treated her with fugistat and monistate cream due to she wasnt alway getting a full dose. I also put acv in her water and a probiotic. She was looking well no spit up for a few days so i took her back outside in the daytime after 7 days of treatment it came back. So i did it again on day six of no spit up i put her back out later that afternoon a small amout of spit up so im treating again with the same meds. Do you have any advise for a better treatment also she had the monistate on a spoonful of plain greek yougurt. Thank you.

I usually refer people with crop problems to this article:

Crop disorders many times will accompany other problems such as egg yolk peritonitis or salpingitis, water belly, which cause increased pressure and slow crop, and also worms may sometimes be a cause. They are hard to treat. Acidified copper sulfate 1/4 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days, can be an additional treatment for sour crop if nothing else has helped. Does her crop ever empty overnight? What are you feeding? Do you always have poultry grit available for them in a separate container from feed?
