I have no idea what happened to her, she had no discernable injuries, just a small amount of blood coming from one eye and her mouth. We wonder if she was trampled by a horse...our flock gets to free-range on a 10 acre horse farm. RIP little girl.

I'm sorry! I lost my first chicken today too--- darn me for getting so attached to my critters :( Mine just vanished--- looked everywhere, no sign of feathers, blood....nothing. I'm not sure I want to know. Anyway, sorry for your lost. I understand how you feel.

:( sorry for your loss, too. It's hard not to get attached, and not knowing what happened makes me feel horrible, but I am pretty sure that she was happy. All the hens seem happy to be able to roam free (they, all 15 of them, were in a small pen for their first year and a half of life). Then their owner gave them to us, because they were moving and didn't want to deal with it. Now they are free to roam on 10 acres while the sun is up. :)
