lost one out of three couple week old chicks. messy bottom swollen abdomen

I googled it and it said to check the vents daily in baby chicks due to them getting clogged up or watch for warning signs before its too late.. :/

Now, im watching the other two very closely to make sure they dont get constipated, look swollen or messy bottoms. Does anyone have any advice besides just check them daily... And make sure everything is ok?

I lost the dark gray chick.. the smallest one in photo. ^ i got them fro a tractor supply type store calles Atwoods

If their abdomens were swollen, it was most likely omphalitis. this is an internal infection that is not related to pasty butt.

Ok it appeared swollen but all chicks have a round little egg shaped bottom its hard to tell. She had yellow coloredyy feces on her behind

The swelling of omphalitis feels different than a normal chick. Also called, "mushy chick disease".

My friend got three from same place same day as me and she lost her one of hers about a week ago to same thing its butt was all dirty, too. Like it was unable to poo.. Ironic both that passed were smallest of the bunch. I hate losing them not being able to save them but its part of life, I guess. :/
