Hi, I'm new to chicken keeping and have four lovely girls; Cissy, Ada, Evadne Hinge, and Hilda Bracket. Evadne and Hilda are Warrens, Cissy is a hybrid White Leghorn, and Ada is a hybrid Black Rock. We got them at point of lay (just about) and have started to get one or two eggs a day from Hilda and Ada (we think!). We've had a couple of double-yolkers, and a very strange white yolk but the rest have been totally normal. Evadne is doing 'the squat' really nicely and Cissy, though rather reluctant to grow up, has just started kind of crouching a bit. I like to spend time in their run, and can easily lose half an hour just looking at them and talking to them. Luckily, we live in a rural area so people don't think I'm completely insane! In my everyday life, I'm a psychology lecturer so the girls are just a lovely form of relaxation, along with the allotment, though I'm beginning to think I'm a frustrated smallholder at heart :)

:welcome

Congrats on getting those first eggs! Don't worry about the odd egg or two from new layers...it can take a bit of maturing for hens to get their plumbing in full working order.

Thanks for joining us!

Hi and welcome :frow. Your behaviors in the run seem perfectly normal to me!
Thanks! We get a lot of tourists, and though the locals don't think anything of it, any tourist passing by today would have thought it a bit strange that Evadne flew up onto my shoulder and then perched herself on my back! I had to bend over and wait til she decided to hop off. She's a bit of an attention seeker :D

Hi, thanks for the links. I'm enjoying exploring the site. I'm actually in England (Peak District) but I would have thought you have members here too, so I will take a look at that. :)
