A friend gave us this chick, he said withevery 50 meat chickens they give a exoitc one and it was so much small than meats he gave it to me. sure is a pretty bird.
1st picture looks messed up as a small wild dog got ahold of him almost riped the wing right off, poor thing will never be "right again", but plan on keeping it. (wild pup was taken in town to the no kill pound, too meny people dump there unwanted pets out here, it wasn't his fault just hungry .

Anyway .... Hen or Roo? and what kind of chick is it??

very friendly, comes right to you to sit in your hand.
    about 3 monthes old.

Java, Black Jersey Giant or Black Orpington. Probably not a java, they are rare. Do you have a side picture of it on the ground so we can see its tail? Are its hackle feathers pointy or rounded?

Or Black Australorp. If the soles of the feet are pink, it's a BA. Looks like a pullet, too.

It looks like a hen to me.
Hackle feathers are the feathers on the neck. With most chickens(some exceptions) hens will have rounded hackle feathers and roosters will have pointed hackle feathers.BA is short for Black Australorp,I think.
