It's father is a RIR and mother a Plymouth Rock. Thanks for any help! It's about 6 weeks old.
It's a Black Sex Link pullet. Hatchery BSLs are produced by crossing RIR roosters with Barred Rock hens and the offspring can be sexed by color; male BSLs are barred and female BSLs are black with some copper or reddish colored feathering in the neck area (like your bird). Black Sex Links are very friendly and hardy, egg laying machines. I raised them for years and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 large brown eggs per hen per year. You should get loads of eggs from that girl. )
Wow, thanks alot. This one was named the ugly duckling by my wife lol, she hasn't seen her in a month tho. LOL
I think the white ones are males if I understand sexlinks, one red chick has feather on her feet so she is a cross between a RIR and Light Bramha. The other 2 red ones are a cross between a RIR and Buff Orp, so I'm not sure about those, hopefully they are females since they have the color of their father the RIR. Thanks for any help in setting me straight on how sexlinks work, I'm new to this.
