i seam to remember reading that you could sex normals once they started to feather, that if they had spots on the breast they were hens? so this one has spots, does that make it a hen?

Too young to tell, but if it starts getting any 'colored' feathers on the breast (rust/reddish) then it's a male

But that looks like a golden chick, not a 'normal'.
 
i figured i might be pushing it a bit, but i saw spots and got excited haha. Thanks, my cameras nothing fancy (nikon coolpix l5) but you've got to love the macro mode close up! I live on that setting!

You think it might be a golden? I'm afraid i only took 2 photos as a downy chick, one when wet and this one, excuse the buff orp, it was there for size comparison:

yep it's a gold....on a side note(and NOT to start anything, people),quail and chickens are NOT compatible . Chickens tend to be carriers of coryza and quail have NO immunity against it....
