I am down to one pair of quail, Butlers, and the hen made a nest about 6 weeks ago in the nesting box. Yes, I put nesting boxes on the side of the cages and the hens lay (laid) in them. After making her nice little nest she then began to lay again and seemed quite proud and protective of her nest and eggs so I let her be and thought I would allow her to hatch if she wanted too. About a week ago the male took over the nest and is VERY protective over it. Is this common?
