Harriet hatched four chicks last Saturday morning- she encourages the chicks to eat and drink, but I don't ever see her eating or drinking. Not even the scrambled egg treat I have given them. She hatched these chicks out on hay in my horse barn, and I enclosed the area she is in for protection. There has been only one large, fairly runny poop in her area since then- I am wondering if she is eating and drinking- she is used to free ranging, and I am wondering if I should transfer her and the babies into a little coop in a fenced grassy area ASAP. She does know what chicken feed is, and has eaten it in the past, but it was never really her favorite thing. Advice? Thanks!!!

Anyone? Is this normal? I have never had a broody before.

I don't broody just hatched her chicks out also. She is eating her feed though. I do put them out in the grass a few times a day and she digs in the grass and the babies do too. Try it and see what happens.
