I've had between 6 and 10 Serama roosters for a long time.
I'm on an acre surrounded by vacant virgin acres.
One neighbor used to have chickens but not anymore.
The Serama aren't loud enough to bother my neighbors
but I now have a Barred Rock who began crowing continuosly from about 4 am.
His bassier voice in addition to the increased volume must travel a lot farther.
Last night I put him in a parrot cage, put it in my woodshop and covered him with a storage blanket.
This morning he sounded quieter than the Serama despite being 40 feet from my bedroom while the Serama are 150 feet away.
Has anyone else prepared semi-soundproof sleeping quarters for their rooster(s) ?
I plan to have over 20 breeding hens next year so I'm gonna need 3 large roosters.
I will build a small insulated sleeping chamber for them inside one of my sheds.
I've found that brothers will get along well if raised together, as long as you don't remove their females.
