Manlius, New York Zoning Problems

Hello! We have nine chickens in Manlius, New York in the Town of Manlius. We were under the impression that it was okay to have chickens where we live, but now the zoning officer is giving us a problem. He claims that we are not allowed to have chickens here. We have approximately2.5 acres and we are zoned R1. Does anyone have any information on this? We would really appreciate any help or advice on this because we love our chickens; they are our pets and important family members, and we do not want to have to get rid of them! Please help!
