At what age can I expect my Marans girls (3) to begin laying? I also have 3 Barred Rock and 3 Black Star. They're all the same age (16 weeks today) and have only 1 Rooster (Cuckoo Marans as well) in the coop with them...

Thanks for the info!

Perhaps your Black Stars will be the first of your flock to lay. I have heard that they can begin at 16 weeks. If they look ready, with red combs & wattles, then you know the time is gettin close.

got your nest boxes ready? I keep oyster shells out for mine free choice...if they need calcium it is there for them, if they don't they just ignore it.

Well, the girls are definately squatting when I reach down to pet them. At least 2-3 of them are doing this now, and their faces are beginning to turn more red than pink. I take it this means they are nearing the maturity level needed to begin laying eggs.

Is this an accurate interpretation?
