How sad and disconcerting.
Okay, I was Just going to post some stuff over there, questions and picks. I'll do it here for today, as I am sure it would get lost over there.
THIS is why I love Copper Marans so much. Look at the colors in the sun today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is Gregory Peck, a Jesse Bryant cockerel. He has pretty good coloring, I think. Comb is good, nice feathering. You can't tell, but his tail carriage is pretty nice as well. I am hoping he proves to be a good roo. So far at about 8 months, he is very friendly. Just a nice guy. And a good guardian of his girls. My kids left a pen door open and he had quite a boxing match with one of his "brothers" recently. So disregard the marks on the comb and wattles.
Here are a couple of my Jesse hens. Their coloring and combs are nice, shanks feathered, and the iridescence of their black body feathers in the sunlight is wonderful. These girls are laying pretty consistent 6's. Someone just started laying one of those calcium coated lighter eggs. I have to figure out who.
My question is should I work on combs or color first? I have 2 females from Jesse, and 2 from Davis lines that have too much lacing in their black body feathers. I am not sure if they would be disqualified or not. Now I am wishing I kept Richard's Black Cockerel. I should have put him with these girls. Dumb me. Anyway, should I take them out of my pen with the hens that have correct copper hackles and black body feathers? I won't know how is laying what.
Also, some of my Jesse hens have combs that are less than optimal. Should I ignore this for now? The roos' combs from Jesse's birds were all excellent, but a few of the hens, well I just think they could be improved.
Thanks for any insight.
I have 3 lovely cockerels from "davis" lines. 2 from Richard and one from Sterling Sue. A number of the pullets are a bit dark, but one pullet from Richard is lovely(I think). I will post a pic of her later.
