I want to get some marans chickens--can anyone tell me the dofference between a black copper maran and a cucko maran? Also, where can I get some--seems all the hatcheries are sold out. Thanks.

They are quite different: black copper Marans and, partridge Maran hen
Partridge Marans have intricately marked feathers, like all 'partridge' birds. The black copper Marans have plain feathers.

Hi! My Pet Chicken has them as limited availability. I made a phone order so I could speak to them in person, they are really nice and helpful. I'm super happy with the order I got from them, mine are 4 wks. old now and are beautiful healthy girls!

Keep in mind the MyPetChicken sells hatchery stock. If you want dark eggs, it's best to buy from a breeder.

Do you want eggs, chicks or chickens?

Mainly because they are producing quantity and not focusing on quality or breeding towards the Standard of Perfection, like a breeder would. With Marans, it is a constant challenge to keep and improve the darker egg color. Without improvement, you will in time, get eggs the color of a Barred Rock.
