    Hi,

All my chickens have been vaccinated for Mareks disease, but the other morning I went to let them into there big run and she acted "drunk" I picked her up and she was unbelievably thin, separated her and fed her up etc. day 4let her out of her small house and she walked around normally, day 5 (today 28/12/2013) she's layed an egg and seems like normal. Could it have been lack of nutrition? She is the bottom of an 18flock pecking order, and we've had red mites (now treated and sorted hopefully) or do I dare think its Mareks?

Welcome to BYC. A certain number of chickens can still get Mareks even with a vaccine, but more than likely, it is nutritional or she has something else wrong. How old is she? Red mites can make chickens quite anemic, and being low in the pecking order, they can be kept from food. I would give her some egg every day, and put some vitamin/electrolyte solution in her water. You can put her in a cage or just hand feed her the egg. Even caging her for two meals a day wouldn't hurt. I would just watch her for now.

Hi Lindsey. Given that they where vaccinated, I would first think about nutrition. You said she is at the bottom of the pecking order and very thin. How many feeders do you have out? Can you try increasing it to maybe three so there is less completion at the food source? Also try pulling her out once or twice a day and feed her some scrambled egg or oatmeal to help her out for a few days. If you have any poly visol baby vitamins (without iron) add that to the water also. Hope she perks up.

Another possibility is lymphoid leucosis, or possibly severe coccidiosis.

But there's no blood in her poo, She's eating for Britain and she's perked up after being on her own and getting lots of food?
