Mare's Illegal Cute-ness (Call Duck) Chat Thread!!

Pics
It's way past time I started my own thread. Please feel free to share your own Call ducks and chat! Calls from your past, present, and future are all welcome!

My OG girls (thanks @Conan for starting this obsession!) are the 4 in front and the 4 most close to the camera. They will be 2 years old April and May 2023. From left to right: Butter, Puddle, Lidus, Raspberry (in back), Roxy, and my drake Puddin' in the rear.

The newest pair arrived this October from Montana. They are approximately 7 months old. Their names are Raspberry and Puddin'.

I will be working on breeding the newest pair this coming spring, and potentially exploring one of my OG girl's genetics. She has a nice enough shape and bill that I don't think it would take much for her to produce SQ babies.

Here are the stats on the group as of today.

Hoping to get my human kidlets started on showing this summer. Please feel free to share any and all show tips! Would also love to hear about Call color genetics. I'm trying to learn as I go here. I've already picked a breeding partner and we are super excited to get started this spring.

Can't wait to hear from all the fellow Call peeps!
Oh my gosh!!! They're sooooo cute. I've only ever had Pekin but I loved them..

These are the most comprehensive I've found so far. They are still missing some project colors though.

Mmm, the Harliquine page, with a dash of pied from the white markings page. :love

I do wish males had more differences between the colors. I'm just not a fan of the typical mallard color

Honestly, most pictures I've seen do them no justice at all. The colors and fine markings that they have when you look closely at them are so lovely! I don't honestly have great pictures to show it, either, but some of the gray males I've seen in show have been breathtaking!

His gray feathers almost remind me of a guinea.

Are call ducks louder than chickens? I have neighbors that get a little angry about
noises... This thread is not helping my animal addiction😍😅

Female call ducks are most assuredly louder than chickens! Males talk just as much as the females, they just have a low, raspy voice instead of a loud QUACK QUACK QUACK so they aren't as noticeable.

Female ducks in general are LOUD. VERY LOUD! One of the reasons I love my Muscovy so much (apart from all the other great things about them!).

I need miniature Muscovy, lol!
