Marking you chicks

I have recently set some eggs from two different breeders. I want to make sure I keep them apart. What ist he best method. I am not sure leg banding chicks is a great idea as they grow it seems one would need to change bands frequently.

What is to punching? How does that work?

I would toe punch one batch and not the other.

Toe punching is a little metal thingy that punches a hole in the webbing between the toes. There are many different combinations you can make.

You will want to toe punch them very young and have blood stop powder on hand just in case.

What about toe nail polish?

I haven't done it but others on here have. I just don't know if you would want to do it with baby chicks as the other chicks may zero in on the polish and try to peck at them.
