Hello everyone!! This is our second year raising chicks, but the first time from McMurry's. I have adult Rhode Island Reds and ordered a mix of Rhode Island's and Barred Rock this year.

McMurry's threw in a "mystery chick" which seems pretty common on the boards, but we can't seem to figure out what she is! We've gone through hundreds of pictures on the internet with no clue.

She has the regular 4 toes, gray/blue skin, is a mix of black and brown, and is bigger than the other chicks the same age. She has little tufts of feathers slightly under her eyes that are too darn cute. These pics were taken on their 1 month old "hatch-day". She's very curious and confidant, first to check out new stuff, but is completely docile to hold and will sit on my lap if I sit down in the chicken run.

Any suggestions would be helpful!! We live in a state with colder winters and I want to make sure she's got appropriate accommodations for her breed.

    Nicole

I think McMurray loves to give the EE roo as the mystery chick and that's what I think you've got. Gonna be a looker too!

The blotchiness of the coloration, the deep red over the back/shoulders, really thick legs, and big red comb already scream cockerel. And, yep, it's an Easter Egger.
