mean bird

    ok, so we've got 7 chicks that are now almost 6months old. They are wyandottes, so we still don't know if all are hens or if we have a roo in there.

    Anyway, one of the birds will peck/bite my hand any time I extend it toward the bird. If I grab the bird and hold it and pet it, it doesn't try to peck me at that time but will peck me hard when it's not being held.

    Is there anyway I can stop this behavior?

    Yes, you can peck back. Whenever a juvenile displays unacceptable behavior, a more senior member of the flock will give it a smart peck on the back of the head. You can do this with your finger. It should halt the bad behavior immediately. Repeat every time it happens. Soon they'll get the message.
