What do you keep on hand for ill or injured chickens? I want to put together a list of things to keep in the pantry or medical bag.

    Sulmet
    Wormer
    Poultry dust
    DE
    Bag Balm
big bottle of Betadine or peroxide
Vet Rx and Rescue remedy- useless in my opinion, but I keep them
    NutriDrench/Poly-Vi-Sol
    Pen G and syringes
Vet wrap, bandages, Telfa, Gauze sponges, steri-strips, Tegaderm
super glue, styptic gel, #3 suturing kit
    well-honed hatchet

These are the main stays of the poultry medical kit. I have other stuff available to use as needed, but these are specifically for the birds. I hope it helps.

    Good luck.

ETA- Blukote! Good gracious, how could I have forgotten my favorite product?

The only things I buy for treating chickens are BluKote, Sevin and a wormer. I don't buy the wormer til I need it to avoid so much waste. I always have things like Neosporin and Betadine for me; easy enough to steal a little for them. There's a product for horses that keeps flies off a wound that I may have to hunt down one day -- I forget the name, something like Scat. You can use regular old Neosporin in eyes, by the say.

What about aspirin, yogurt, buttermilk? And is Pen G a good general antibiotic (works on about anything or is there another kind I should keep on hand? I live in kind of far away from the farm stores and I'd like to be prepared for just about anything, especially this winter.
