Hello fella chicken lovers. my name is Leo I recently acquired some backyard hens a while back and I have one that looks fully grown and I think it's a rooster. it doesn't lay eggs and is about 1 year old. Doesn't crow and is afraid of my other 4 chickens. What are your thoughts... Hen or rooster?
Cochin mix rooster. Boy is he cute!He looks full grown, shouldn't the spurs be bigger? It's him and 4 older hens 2 years old and he keeps getting chased. I even separated him for a couple weeks on an adjoining cage and he still gets chased.
Seems about right. But I think that OveroMare is right with the cochin mix.I was told it was a copper maran mix but I'm new to chickens
Older hens will chase younger roosters, and hens that haven't accepted a rooster as head honcho will chase a rooster too. He's going to get chased. Leave him in there, no matter how much he begs to be let out. As long as there is no blood, keep him in. I know that the screeching and the chasing seems like it's too much, and that someone is going to get hurt, but they will figure it out. Only intervene if someone is bleeding. He will learn that hens are not something to be afraid ofHe looks full grown, shouldn't the spurs be bigger? It's him and 4 older hens 2 years old and he keeps getting chased. X2Cochin mix rooster. Boy is he cute!
Spurs take quite a while to come in. Keep him in the adjoining pen and keep trying. He will get chased a bit when you integrate him. That's inevitable. They have to establish a pecking order. Just make sure they're not pinning him and making him bloody.
