    Hey
I am new to this and I got 6 Golden Comets 2 weeks ago. They are around 20 weeks now. One is already laying but the others are not yet. I found this weird looking egg in our driveway today and wanted to see if this was normal? It had a weird membrane around the entire egg. I cracked it open and the inside looked normal. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us.

When pullets begin laying, its normal to see some weird eggs - soft shell, tiny, shell-less so i would not worry about it. It takes them time to get their egg laying machinery sorted out.

    All the best

If she continues to lay eggs like this - there may be a problem.

Did it actually have a hard shell on the outside? Are you giving your hens oyster shell grit so they get enough calcium to produce good egg shells?

Yes it had a complete hard shell. Looked normal except the clean membrane around the whole thing. I tried to upload a picture but it won't let me for some reason

Hmmmm...that's strange. I've had my Guinea hens lay eggs with a membrane but no shell and ones with really soft shells, but nothing like that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Hopefully someone else on here will be able to help!
