So I have 6 ducks

my 3 pekins, Peep, Nibbler and Sparkles
One I think is a blue Swedish/runner mix named Blue
And my 2 Rouens, Rio and Rudi

Rio and Rudi are messier than the other 4 combined.
In their run, I have 3 coops that house 2 ducks each and their coop is always covered in mud and poop within moments of me cleaning it out. It’s like they hold in their poop all day til they get back into their coop.

Anyone else find they have ducks that are exponentially messier that the others?

Yes! My two new Rouens, Matilda and Puddleduck! I love them to bits, but they insist on swimming in and dumping their drinking water and they do the same to my Muscovies‘ bowl too. I think everyone’s got a bit of cabin fever though. The weather has been typically awful and they’ve been stuck in the barn. I’m waiting on a decent day so that I can pull up all the frozen bedding under the water bowls. Anyways, my feeding and watering system worked quite well until these two came along! Is it a coincidence that our messiest ducks are all Rouens? 🤔

Ha that’s what mine do too! They splash around in their water dish and tip it over.

I’ve tried taking their water dish out at night but if I do they honk loudly all night long and I don’t want to get the neighbors upset. But they can’t go a minute without splashing their water all over! and mine will go into the other ducks coops and do it in theirs too if I do t close the coops during the day

Rouens hate clean apparently 😂

My pekin is my messiest. Even if I give them water they can't get into she spends a good portion of her day dunking her head in the water and then flinging that water everywhere. She is also incredibly clumsy. If she can trip on something and spill it, she will.

I'm comparing her to my experiences with 2 welsh harlequins, 1 cayuga, and probably 2 khaki campbells. I've never had a rouen, perhaps if I did she would be my winner!!

I wouldn't call it messy, it is more like making a mess out of greed: All my White Layers are mess-makers. They either jump into the supper-bowl and/or topple it over at some point. When it comes to food they get over-excited and turn into Clumsy the Clown.
On the part of the water, they're all guilty! Jumping into any container full of water that fits two duck-feet. Pooping into the fresh water before anybody else can drink it and turning a single drop of water into the state's largest mud-plain, they all are capable of doing that!
OK, maybe my drakes are a little less messy with the environment, but only because they spend most of their time messing each other up.
