Metal security screen doors

You can check out the link below. Pg 4 has other shots of the coop. I don't have coyotes around here, that I know of. Short of a bear, an animal tearing through hardware cloth, that would take some power. Now if the hardware cloth is not properly installed, I can see where an animal might tear it loose at a corner and get in. But tearing through it like it's regular house window screen, I'd have to see it to believe it.

What a great coop. I will show your pictures to my DH as I think some windows could be cut out like that. I am still concerned about the open door though and want to put something secure on it. It has to be easy for me to open and go in and out of and be secure at night. We have coyotes, bob cats, racoons, owls and the occasional mountain lion and bear. Luckily the latter two are few and far between. Your coop looks fabulous and I am sure you have some very happy chickens.

I won't have time to put up the photos tonight...so sorry but soon!

To put a photo in a post, click on the photo icon above the post window. It is just under "source" all the way to the left. The Insert Image window will pop up. When you get in there, click on the "file" field just left of the "browse" button. That will take you to your computer files then you just navigate to where you have your photos stored, choose oneof them, then click the "submit" button in the bottom right corner.

Hope that all made sense!

No worries Leahs Mom. I will look forward to seeing them when you get the time to post them. Thanks for the info on posting a pic. I figured it out this morning. Duh. It is now actually easier than it was before. Sometimes when it comes to technology, I am on the slow side. I posted a pic in my I found a compromise thread. I need to get some better ones though as this one was taken from the side and you can't see the actual shed. Thanks for all your help. I will be waiting to see your wonderful pictures.

JackE - how is your hardware cloth attached to your frame? We just finished doing that on an internal wall for our hen house but I'm still a little concerned about leaving it open at night as I know we have raccoons, opossum and possible a coyote or 2 nearby. Here's a photo:

Wow, that's gorgeous!

Thanks...my husband was very patient to build what I wanted (!) I hope to put the photos up later this evening of the whole project. It was an old shed purchased from Habit For Humanity Re-Store.

I used heavy duty staples to attach the screen, overlapping the outside of the window opening a couple of inches. Then I installed 3/4" pine trim over that with nails every 8 or so inches. Nails are through the trim boards and the screening. It's very solid and clean looking.

Jack - took a look and wow... very nice! I'm going to read through the whole thread about your coop but I'm not done yet. I did have one question - is the 1/2" hardware cloth the "run-of-the-mill" TSC/Menards variety that is 9 guage or is it heavier than that?

Thank you for sharing your pictures Leahs Mom. Great looking coop! I am starting to design mine as I type this. Can't wait to get it done!
