Greetings from The Midwest! This spring I'm getting chickens, and need help deciding what breeds..... I know for sure I'm getting some Rhode Island Whites (if I can find them) and Plymouth Rocks for dual-purpose.... plus maybe one or two Silkies for ornamental (they're so cute!).... and I want to get a few more. Any suggestions for my region?

go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum - you locate and post on your state thread.

Someone near you may have breeds you are interested in.

Hi there,
frow.gif
and welcome to BYC!

I am a huge fan of the Orpington breeds...Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorps. They are great dual purpose birds for meat and eggs. They are very docile, affectionate and are very hardy over all. Mine are very friendly and follow me around like drooling puppies looking for attention and a soft lap to sit on. LOL

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

The Delawares and Orpingtons.... are they susceptible to frostbite? Also, do you know if they free range well? (Over at least 5 acres......)
