Might extra protein help molting hens get their feathers back?

Someone mentioned feathers falling out due to lack of protein (or something like that) and it leads me to wonder whether I shouldn't cook up some eggs for my molting hens to help them feather up a little faster. Does anyone know if extra protein might help shorten the molt process? (It's getting cold outside)

That is the idea that is often suggested. Not sure if it is true. Growing feathers takes a lot of protein. Besides eggs you can give meat, cheese, yogurt, milk, even catfood. Really any source of protein. If you give dry beans make sure they are well cooked. (uncooked is toxic).

As long as they have a dry draft free coop they should be OK with the cold.

The molt is a stressful time for the bird. Regrowing feathers requires adequate protein. Supplementing their diet with extra protein eases the physical stress the birds are experiencing & helps them to re-feather more easily.
