Since you are looking more at the pet trade I'd look at the average price of birds on Craig's list and in the paper classifieds. Chickenmath is for BYC and other "Hobbyists " places, the general public is usually different. Try looking at it from their point of view, (try thinking back to before Really started Getting into chix, do you still remember, back when you were normal?) Try asking for advice from someone you gotten to know at the feed store. It also depends on how badly you want/have to get them of the feed bill or need the space. It's hard not to let chicken math get out of hand, I know. Try not to stress about every decision, it will get easier. Remember you're not alone
