Sick hen dosing with corid 2 month old cochin. New to this group. Not sure what I need to do next or if she just needs a higher dose of the corid. 1/4 tsp per 1/2gal of water. Watering out of 1/2 gal jug daily 3 times a day. I just need help. 9.6% liquid corid is the medicine I'm using. No seeing poop in stool anymore, but she just seems tired and sleeping more.

Yes,no blood anymore. Sorry. Diet is chicken scratch, mixed with chick feed. And water. No other foods. She is separated from all other animals and is here in the house in a controlled climate. A c is on. No injuries. She had a 2 month old silky pen mate that went through same deal and she did not live, even with the corid, with her I think I caught on to late. Not sure I'm dosing her enough etc.

No worries, if corid isn't helping, it might not be coccidosis. Try some poultry vitamins. What does her crop feel like? Don't mix scratch with feed, as it's a treat for a few times a week, they'll pick out the tastier all carb/fat, scratch and leave the nutritious feed, like kids picking the marshmallow bits out of cereal. It causes stunted growth and maybe illness. I'm sorry you lost your silkie.

I am newer to chickens and no expert but I can tell you what has worked for my kiddos that have been either pasty butt, lethargic, sleeping, dehydration…and I did some of this when I treated them with corid and de wormer when they were really sick. And I lost a silkie so I tried all the things!

Nutridrench, Save a chick and powder probiotics with their food and mine turned around 12-48 hours. All of those are good to replenish their systems from the medication.

I would stick with her chick feed over scratch just for nutritional reasons while she is healing.

I will add nutridrench to either their mush or in their water. I offer it this way to guarantee they are getting all the things bs throwing it all over the floor or not drinking enough. I just alternate daily and offer them one of the following. I premix save a chick to soak and make their mush.

-crumbles mixed with a tad bit of coconut oil, and yogurt.
-Crumbles mixed with scrambled egg cooked with coconut oil.
-crumbles and save a chick.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

Thank you yes it was devastating. Am I doing the corid correct by giving her water out of the doctored half gal jug each day?

Also what other feed should I give her? I give a layer pellets when they get older, but of course she's to young and not laying yet, but maybe layer pellets have more vitamins. What are your thoughts

Where do I get these things. Save a chick ... from where do I order it. Thank you any help is appreciated. I have been extremely lucky with not having sick chickens. Buy this last batch is also the first ones ever brought in that were not hatched here on our little farmet. So this has been a hole new experience, and one I hope not to repeat. I'm just so thankful that I quarantined them from day one, and did not turn them out with my other 24 chickens.

Save a Chick and Nutridrench should be at any of the feed stores-cheaper. But online or Amazon works. I attached pics of the products!

The probiotics I got came from Amazon but have seen different ones in the feed stores too!

I’m so sorry this is happening!

Hi, Jodi, sorry for your troubles. Are you providing chick grit? Once you add anything to the diet besides chick starter, they must have grit to aid in digestion. You say you are feeding scratch, so your chick definitely needs grit to digest that. Don't switch to a layer feed until she starts laying. In fact, you never need to switch to layer if you just provide calcium in the form of crushed oyster shell in a separate feeder or dish. That way any chickens that are not layers won't get extra calcium in their diet, which can be harmful to their kidneys. This would include males, older hens, or any that are molting.

:frow Welcome to BYC! I'm in MO, too!
