i am worried about mites on my chicks what are the symptoms thanks

We just bought some birds at the auction. Thank god I had them separated. We did our NPIP Sunday and the new birds had mites. Hope you solve your problem. We used seven dust .

Mites are small, but you can see them. They are dark specks.

Just be aware that chicks preen and peck at their feathers a lot. They also scratch at their feathers a lot. This is perfectly normal. They also have a lot of what looks like dandruff in their feathers.

While they're growing in size, they're also constantly growing new feathers. That's a very itchy process. As the blood/pin feathers grow longer, the blood supply starts to recede at the tip. The chick preens the end, takes off the outer sheath and helps the feather unfurl.
