Male or female...that is the question....

Here is round #1 of pics from my new batch of chicks, now 10 weeks. The male is a mix himself (BYC posters think he's a game/EE mix). I'm not sure on all of the chicks' moms, but...
    #1 is Ameraucana mom
    #2 is a Leghorn mom
#3 is a Rhode Island Red mom
#4 is a black leghorn mom

Thanks for any help! We're trying to find homes or freezers for them![IMG]

I think the papa gorgeous and looks a lot like a game chicken. But if you are positive of #4's mom and dad, then the papa might be a EE cross vs game cross. [IMG] Anyways, back on the current question. #1- roo, #2- pullet. Now #3 and #4 are a little harder. From just the single pics of each I would lean more toward roos, but only about 60/40.

It's difficult when they're all different breeds and mixes, but to me it looks like they might all be girls...
P.S. I really like no. 3. Looks quite like some of my own crossbreeds. Is that a rose comb?

    Thanks everyone!

When will the roos start to crow? When do spurs develope? I guess that's the first "sure" way?

1 hard to tell since he looks so much more like his dad than his mom, but i'd say leghorn or possibly RIR. cockerel
2 leghorn mum and def. a pullet [IMG]
    3 RIR; cockerel
4 Ameraucana probably a pullet but i'm not sure....
    very pretty crosses [IMG]

Quote:It all depends on each individual bird. I think most start crowing anywhere between 4-8months. Spurs can grow on both sexes, but I think growth becomes more visible around 6+ months.

Seeing pointy saddle and hackle feathers is another way to tell you roos.
