I am planning to order heritage turkeys from cackle hatchery this year. With the expectation that some will be thanksgiving dinner, but if I keep some hens for breeding do they need to be separated by breed or is it ok for them to mix? Granted I know some people wouldn't want a palm/slate cross or something like that for breeding but for eating I can't imagine it would be an issue. Any thoughts?

Nope, not an issue in my opinion. We'll be mixing ours, and often it creates a lot of colors available today. There are a couple that have more meat than others, but to my experience it doesn't change much when crossing them. Infact, a lot of the turkeys we'll be ordering are "mixbreeds" - Or, projects done with mixing to create new colors. (Such as Lilac, Pencilled Palm)

No that wouldn't be a prob. at all if you didn't mind mixed poults! But that would be something new and probably pretty!
