I will soon be getting my pullets
I really want to get the best layers possible.
Can you suggest some hybrids that would get on together and produce the higher yield of eggs.

The sex links that the hatcheries sell are red and black. They may have different names at different hatcheries but they are the same (per color). The blacks are a little bigger than the reds.

    Hi:welcome

Glad you could join the flock! X2 on the sex links for good egg production. I started out with red sex links or warrens as they are called over here and they were excellent egg layers and a good bird to start out with.

Good luck with your pullets and hope you enjoy BYC, I am sure you will :frow

The sex links are high production birds I believe for the first two years and then not so much. Some people stagger the ages so when one group is slowing down they have an up coming young group just starting. There will be EGGS!!

Welcome to BYC! [IMG]I'm glad you joined us.

You'll probably be best off getting either Red or Black Sex-Links. These birds have been bred for egg production. Many Sex-Links will lay over 300 eggs each per year. You can read reviews of Sex-Links at these two links:

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to our flock. As the other members have mentioned Black and Red Sex Links are famed for their incredible egg production. These are the hens used by laying houses for brown eggs as they consistently churn out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. I personally prefer the Black Sex Links slightly to the Red Sex Links as my Blacks have been friendlier and slightly better layers in really cold winter weather, however you can't go wrong either way. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Whatever layers you decide to get, good luck with your flock.

If you want high egg production, Sex-links (both red and black) are the way to go. Very productive pure breeds include Leghorns and Australorps.
