Mixing different flocks?

Today I got 3 new hens that came from a flock of 12 but the rest were eaten by some animal. Well anyways I put the new hens into the pen with my flock of 5 hens and 1 roo. One of my hens was eating and a new hen came up and was getting some food too and they started to fight. Is that just seeing who is more dominant or acutall fighting as in gonna hurt one another? I have never mixed flocks before so please help me out!

The new hen didn't respect that she's lower in the order and has to wait until the higher ranking hen has finished. She was reminded of her standing. New chickens start at the bottom. Completely normal behavior and it may take days or weeks for everyone to settle down. You can help your new arrivals by providing multiple food & water stations. As long as the aggression isn't causing injury, it's probably fine.
